Eclipsia
Case Study

Eclipsia

A third-person narrative vertical slice set across one large, town-sized area — built solo, and backed by a Screen Australia Emerging Game Fund grant.

Eclipsia drops you into a single, sprawling town scaled like a real place rather than a level — no loading screens breaking it into chunks. You spend the slice on foot, working through twelve residents, each carrying a branching conversation built on custom dialogue tasks rather than a generic "talk to NPC" node. The camera reads the space as you move: a following third-person shot on open ground, cutting to a locked, composed angle the moment a scene calls for one, blending between the two so a walk across town and a scripted beat in someone's kitchen never feel like two different games.

Eclipsia started as a pitch to Screen Australia's Emerging Game Fund, which supports early-stage Australian game development. The pitch was approved, funding three months of vertical-slice production — actual development ran a full year. The grant was fully delivered and acquitted, and a follow-on production grant application is currently pending.
